Brett Favre...Hall of Famer but barely top 10

These are the quarterbacks I would take over Brett Favre, who I thought would only retire after they pried the football from his cold, dead hands:

Tom Brady, Joe Montana, John Elway, Peyton Manning, John Unitas, Otto Graham (the most underrated thrower perhaps ever), Dan Marino, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw.

All of them had better careers than Favre.

Favre's greatest asset was his endurance but his greatest weakness was his inaccuracy. He tossed more interceptions than any quarterback ever and that's not a good thing for an NFL thrower.

Favre has been called a "gunslinger" a term that always amused me. When did that become code for error prone?

All athletes should take notice of how Favre handled the media and fans. He treated both well and the media overlooked his glaring weaknesses as a quarterback because they liked him personally. He was rarely taken to task for throwing so many key interceptions in so many big spots.

A non-partisan eye looks at Favre's career and sees it for what it was: he achieved Hall of Fame status and was a perfect fit in one of the top football towns in America but he never reached the top tier status of a Brady or Marino.

Soap and Water

NEW ORLEANS -- To some members of the European media covering the All-Star game:

Please shower.

Thank you.

How crazy is New Orleans? Well, let me tell you..

I knew this was going to be an interesting trip just several minutes after I landed in New Orleans.

While waiting for my baggage, about eight to 10 feet away from me, a woman began screaming for help. She was crouched over a man who looked to be unconscious. She was yelling that he had suffered some sort of seizure. Two of us ran to look for help; we found several police officers nearby who assisted the man while waiting for medical help.

Here's the thing: About 20 minutes later there were still no paramedics.

It made me wonder. Would that type of slower response be the norm in other cities and airports or was the slower response because the city's emergency services here are still strained years after Hurricane Katrina?

Since the police were there, I got my luggage and left. While medical help was slow getting there, the police were brave and outstanding and were still helping the man. He was conscious when I departed.

Welcome to New Orleans.

Live from Clemens hearing

My computer battery is dying so this might be my last blog for a bit. In the last exchange, Roger Clemens and his lawyers clearly walked into a huge trap. They didn't know that Congress had so much information from the nanny and they used it to beat Clemens over the head. I think that testimony buried him. He needs to tap out.

Again, with the testimony of Andy Pettitte and Chuck Knoblauch behind him, Brian McNamee, while no angel, seems far more credible.

Live from Clemens hearing

WASHINGTON --

The nanny just punched Roger Clemens in the gut.

The chairman of the committee just destroyed Clemens by revealing that the one-time Clemens nanny says Clemens was indeed at the much disputed Jose Canseco party. This is significant because Brian McNamee claims at this party there
